3600 éves palota maradványait fedezték fel kínai régészek a bronzkori Erlitou-nál, a kínai Henan tartományban.

Ez eddig a lelőhely legjobb állapotban fennmaradt épülete, s valószínűleg erről mintázták a Sang-dinasztia vallási jellegű épületeit is. A palotakomplexum területe összesen 11 ezer négyzetméter, s három udvarral rendelkezik.

Az ott talált tárgyi emlékek az ötezer évvel ezelőtti Jangsao és Lungshan kultúrák ideje és a Csou- illetve a Han-dinasztiák kora közötti periódusból valók. Erlitou fénykorát a Hszia-dinasztia korában élte, amely i.e. 21-17. század között volt; ezt az időszakot Erlitou-kultúrának is nevezik.

„Ez a legkorábbi császári palota Kínában” – jelentette ki Hszü Hong, a Kínai Társadalomtudományi Akadémia alá tartozó Hsziasangcsou Régészeti Osztály igazgatója. „Habár területe a Ming- és a Csing-dinasztiák palotáinak hetede, ez tekinthető a császári paloták prototípusának” – tette hozzá Hszü.
