A Tom Lantos Intézet megnyitóján részt vesz Condoleezza Rice volt amerikai külügyminiszter, és Hillary Clinton, az amerikai diplomácia vezetője is.

Az amerikai és a magyar emberek szövetsége erős alapokon áll – jelentette ki Orbán Viktor csütörtökön az Országházban, a Tom Lantos Intézet megnyitóján.

A miniszterelnök beszédében azt mondta: “azért gyűltünk össze, hogy az Amerikai Egyesült Államok és Magyarország szövetségét tovább erősítsük, e szövetség harcos hírnökei előtt tisztelegjünk, Magyarország és az Egyesült Államok szövetségének újabb erős bástyáját ünnepeljük”.

Az amerikai és a magyar emberek szövetsége erős alapokon áll. Erős alapot ugyan lehet kőből, lehet acélból létrehozni, ám “a mi szövetségünk erejét különös módon egyetlen szó adja”, ez pedig a szabadság – mondta beszédében a kormányfő, hangsúlyozva, hogy “a szabadság iránt érzett szenvedélyes vonzalmunk” közösséget alkot, és nincs a világon még egy olyan erős, magabiztos és elkötelezett közösség, mint a szabadságszerető emberek, népek közössége.

Az ilyen szövetség kitermeli a maga hírnökeit és harcosait. A magyar szabadság üzenetét hírnökök vitték a világban akkor is, amikor “a megszállás és a diktatúra tombolt Magyarországon” – fejtette ki, majd emlékeztetett, hogy sok ilyen hírnök érkezett Amerikába, sokan közülük harcosokká váltak, a magyar szabadság ügyének harcos képviselőivé. A magyar nép mindig is hálás lesz ezeknek a hírvivőknek, harcosoknak, akiknek egyike volt Tom Lantos. Orbán Viktor rámutatott, mai szabadságunk az aktív, cselekvő amerikai magyar emigrációnak is köszönhető.

Felidézve találkozásait Tom Lantossal a miniszterelnök azt mondta, előfordult, hogy vitáztak, sőt szinte minden magyar belpolitikai kérdésben eltért az álláspontjuk, a közös elkötelezettségük a szabadság és a magyarok szolgálatában azonban áthidalt mindenfajta politikai különállást.

Az Egyesült Államokat és Magyarországot a szabadság szenvedélyes szeretete tette azzá, ami ma – jelentette ki, felhívva ugyanakkor a figyelmet arra, hogy míg Amerikát mindig is a szabadság földjének tartották, addig a magyarok állandóan csak küzdöttek a szabadságért. “Hosszú utat tettünk meg, évszázadokig harcoltunk, mártírok ezreit adtuk, míg végre elérkeztünk oda, hogy ma magabiztosan elmondhatjuk: a szabadság szavunk immár közös Amerikával, ugyanazt értjük alatta” – mondta, kiemelve, hogy a szabadság nem természetes adottság, nem adatik meg sem a gyáváknak, sem a kishitűeknek.

Az adósság is gúzsba köti a szabadságot

Orbán Viktor szerint a szabadságért folytatott küzdelem új időszámításba lépett, a szabadságjogok védelmét a nyugati világban valamennyi jelentős politikai erő elfogadta. Ám a szabadságra ma is számos veszély leselkedik – folytatta -, kevésbé tankok és erőszak, inkább a szellemet “gúzsba kötő eszközök” korlátozzák sokak szabadságát. Példaként a szabadság és a gazdaság “bonyolult viszonyát” említette, amellyel kapcsolatban kifejtette: az adósság – legyen szó akár egy háztartás, akár egy ország adósságáról – nyilvánvaló módon korlátozza a szabadságot anélkül, hogy a hagyományos szabadságjogok bármelyike is jogi értelemben sérülne. “A 2008 utáni új világban ebből az irányból érkezik a legjelentősebb fenyegetés a szabadságra, ezen a téren van és lesz a legtöbb teendője minden, szabadságot szerető embernek” – vélekedett.

Hozzátette emellett, hogy hiába teljes az egyén szabadsága akkor is, ha közösségként szabadságjogai gyakorlásában korlátozott. Közép-Európában ugyan javult a helyzet a kisebbségi jogok tekintetében, “de még messze van, amikor nyugodtan hátradőlhetünk” – jegyezte meg, kiemelve, hogy további bástyákra van szükség a szabadságért vívott küzdelemben, hogy “felépítsük bevehetetlen, a támadásoknak ellenálló erődünk”.

A néhai magyar származású amerikai képviselőről, a képviselőház külügyi bizottsága vezetőjéről elnevezett Tom Lantos Intézet éppen ezt vállalta, azt, hogy képviseli a szabadságot, a kisebbségi jogok ügyét. “Kívánom, hogy az intézet hűségesen ápolja Tom Lantos emlékét, és hirdesse az amerikai magyar emigráció cselekvő tagjainak áldozatos munkáját és sikerét”, és erősítse tovább a szövetséget az Egyesült Államok és Magyarország között; “a magyar emberek nevében ezt a munkát a magyar kormány teljes támogatásáról biztosítom” – zárta szavait Orbán Viktor.

Condoleezza Rice: a Tom Lantos Intézet segít helyes irányban maradni

A Tom Lantos Intézet segíteni fog abban, hogy helyes irányban maradjunk az emberi szabadság biztosításában – mondta Condoleezza Rice volt amerikai külügyminiszter a megnyitón.

Rice – aki elvállalta az intézmény társelnökségét – arról beszélt, hogy Tom Lantos különleges ember, erőteljes erkölcsi hatalom volt, mélyen hitt a szabadság iránti vágyban és ezen törekvés egyetemességében. Meggyőződése volt, hogy az emberi szabadság elterjed.

Úgy fogalmazott: “Bármikor, amikor találkoztunk, amikor nemzetbiztonsági tanácsadó vagy külügyminiszter voltam, és értésemre adta, hogy letértünk az emberi szabadság kérdésében a helyes útról, úgy gondoltan, jobban teszem, ha ellenőrzöm az iránytűmet, mert ha Tom úgy gondolja, hogy letértünk, akkor bizonyára letértünk”.

“A Tom Lantos Intézet segíteni fog, hogy helyes irányban maradjunk az emberi szabadság biztosításában nemcsak saját magunk, hanem azok érdekében is, akik egyelőre nem rendelkeznek vele” – mondta.

Tom Lantos szerette Amerikát és Magyarországot is, arra törekedett, hogy összekapcsolja a két országot a szabadság szeretete alapján, abban a törekvésben, hogy egyetlen férfi, nő és gyerek se éljen zsarnokságban. “Ez az intézet egyesít bennünket az Atlanti-óceán két oldalán ezen cél, ezen álom megvalósításában” – tette hozzá Condoleezza Rice volt amerikai külügyminiszter.

Clinton: az együttműködés célja a demokrácia és az emberi jogok védelme

Az EU és a NATO közötti együttműködés célja a demokrácia és az emberi jogok védelme – mondta Hillary Clinton amerikai külügyminiszter.

Hangsúlyozta: a kormányok és a civil szervezetek feladata a demokrácia terjesztése. Minden demokratikus országnak, így az Egyesült Államoknak és Magyarországnak is fontos a saját intézményeinek továbbépítése, de emellett az új demokráciáknak is segíteniük kell, és azt sem hagyhatják, hogy a már működő demokráciák visszalépjenek a fejlődés útján.

Ugyan az Egyesült Államokban is vannak nézetkülönbségek az egyes politikusok és pártok között, de Tom Lantos hitt abban, hogy alapvetően mindannyian egy oldalon állnak: a szabadság és a demokrácia oldalán – mutatott rá.

Martonyi: garantálni kell az emberi jogok érvényesülését

Az Egyesült Államoknak és Magyarországnak egyaránt felelőssége, hogy elérje, a világon mindenütt garantált legyen az emberi jogok érvényesülése – mondta Martonyi János külügyminiszter.

A tárcavezető kijelentette: Magyarország elkötelezett a transzatlanti kapcsolatok mellett, és szem előtt tartja a magyar származású amerikai képviselő, Tom Lantos örökségét, a szabadság és a demokrácia fontosságát.

Balogh András volt nagykövet az eseményen elmondta: Tom Lantos megőrizte elkötelezettségét Magyarország mellett, és bár az Egyesült Államokban is igen sikeres volt, magyar hazafi is maradt, és kiállt a demokrácia, az emberi jogok és a kisebbségek védelme mellett.
