Bizonyos magyarországi vállalatoknak nagyon fog fájni a Brexit//Brexit will hurt a lot for some Hungarian companies

Ezeknek a turistáknak a túlnyomó többsége idén elmaradhat, így a szolgáltatásexport többlete is számottevően csökkenhet, a válság elsősorban a fővárost érinti. A Magyar Turisztikai Ügynökség a lappal közölte: a brit turisták első számú városnéző kirándulási célpontja Budapest, a Magyarországra látogatók 93 százaléka a fővárosban töltötte az idejét.

Duncan Roberts, a British Airways turisztikai ügynökségének kereskedelmi igazgatója szerint a járvány levonulásával ismét népszerű célpont lehet Budapest. Az igazgató várakozása szerint jövőre a Budapestre látogató brit turisták vendégéjszakáinak száma elérheti a 2019-es évi 60-70 százalékát, ha a határok nyitva lesznek, és a járványhelyzet is kedvezően alakul.

Its importance to the national economy will be negligible, but for some companies it will hurt Brexit for us – if the agreement between Britain and the EU comes together. Last year, more than 400,000 British tourists won’t be coming this year either, but that’s already because of the corona virus.

Forecasts show that if the UK leaves the European Union with an agreement, the negative economic impact of the departure on Hungary will be negligible, the MTI writes in Tuesday’s issue of the World Economy.

Zoltán Török, senior analyst at Raiffeisen Bank, emphasized that according to research conducted in 2016, the departure of the British could reduce the growth of Hungary's gross domestic product (GDP) by 0.2-0.3 percentage points in the year after the actual exit, if they leave the European Union by agreement. .

Hungary maintains relatively closer relations with the United Kingdom than is typical in the region, so Brexit may have a slightly greater impact on us than on other countries in the region. However, due to the coronavirus crisis, the economic impact of the UK exit may be almost on the verge of error, conceiving to slow GDP growth by just 0.1 percentage point.

Zoltán Török pointed out that from a macroeconomic point of view, the impact of Brexit is almost negligible, but it can cause considerable problems for the companies involved. In the Central and Eastern European region, Hungary is the third largest export partner to the United Kingdom, with trade in goods and services kicking in at £ 5.7 billion (today's exchange rate at $ 2,246 billion) over the past four quarters, British Ambassador Paul Fox explained.

The main trading partners are in the markets for telecommunications equipment, electrical machinery, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing products. The United Kingdom is the sixth largest investor in Hungary, and the working capital investment from there reached one billion pounds in 2018 (HUF 397 billion at today’s exchange rate).

The second most important source of tourism in Hungary is the United Kingdom, last year 417 thousand people visited Hungary from the island country - according to the data of the Central Statistical Office. The vast majority of these tourists may be left behind this year, so the surplus of service exports may also decrease significantly, the crisis mainly affects the capital. The Hungarian Tourist Agency told the paper that Budapest is the number one sightseeing destination for British tourists, and 93 percent of visitors to Hungary spent their time in the capital.

According to Duncan Roberts, commercial director of the British Airways tourism agency, Budapest could once again be a popular destination as the epidemic subsides. The director expects that next year the number of guest nights of British tourists visiting Budapest could reach 60-70 percent in 2019, if the borders are open and the epidemic situation develops favorably.
