Orbán csak Putyin hasznos idiótája az EU-ban, és ez most már neki is leesett///Orban is just Putin’s useful idiot in the EU, and that has now dropped for him too

Szerinte Orbán nemcsak a saját mozgásterét illetően tévedett, hanem Magyarország biztonságpolitikai pozícióit is durván aláásta.

Orban is just Putin’s useful idiot in the EU, and that has now dropped for him too

Viktor Orbán has a moral responsibility not only because he blocked the NATO-Ukraine Council, but also because he gave Russia and China so much geopolitical influence in an EU and NATO member state, political scientist Dániel Hegedűs of the German Marshall Fund in Berlin told hvg360. According to him, Orbán was not only wrong about his own room for maneuver, but also grossly undermined Hungary’s security policy positions.
Some important thoughts from the interview:

“Viktor Orbán’s Russia policy over the past 12 years has proved to be a strategic failure. From a domestic political point of view, this is a difficult situation for the government and Fidesz, apparently struggling to adapt to the new realities. In an election campaign, the prime minister cannot admit that he was wrong – and this is a mistake on a historic scale – because it is incompatible with the myth of his infallibility in predicting international political developments. ”

“While supporting EU sanctions with its neck on the international stage, trying not to show up and get rid of the troublemaker myth, Russian disinformation is still going on in the pro-government press.”

“Hungary is the only Avisegrád country not to support Ukraine with arms. (…) This is nonsense, no one is preparing for anything against the Hungarians of Transcarpathia with those weapons. The other argument does not stop, there is a possibility of a gesture of solidarity without risking the security of the country, for example, it could hand over exchanged weapons in Russian warehouses, or offer the rusting MIG 29 in Kecskemét, which had been shut down for 12 years. But we could also carry machine guns or ammunition. That is not happening: not because Orbán’s arguments are correct, but because there is no political will behind him. ”

“There is a dual narrative: on the one hand, we join the EU position in everything without saying who against whom and exactly what, and on the other hand, we constantly try to play the angel of peace and keep an equal distance in a situation where the only morally acceptable position is condemning the aggressor. . Putin has clearly kicked out all the fundamental rules of the post-1945 international system, waging an aggressive offensive war against another nation-state for fabricated reasons. If one does not say this, but tries to make peace between the victim and the perpetrator through a mediator, it strengthens the moral position of the perpetrator. ”

“The change in Hungarian foreign policy did not start with Russian aggression, but with Orban’s recent visit to Moscow, where Orban first perceived that he completely misunderstood his own room for maneuver, and what he thought was real foreign policy autonomy was an illusion maintained and allowed by the Russians. a system of relationships where he can deliver results because of his own weight. In early February, Orbán traveled to Moscow primarily for additional gas supplies and tangible economic results in the campaign. Yet he had to return home empty-handed (…) This may have been the point when Orbán realized that he was not an autonomous player against Russia, with whom the Russian president was politicizing for mutual benefit, but just a useful idiot from the European Union, like many others. ”

“Viktor Orbán has a one-person moral historical responsibility. Not only because it blocked the NATO-Ukraine Council, but also because it gave Russia and China that level of geopolitical influence in an EU and NATO member state. The steps taken by the Hungarian government have given many Russian intelligence and service personnel a safe hinterland and starting point. ”

“Orbán was not only wrong about his own room for maneuver, but in the end he also grossly undermined Hungary’s security policy positions. The fact that Hungary did not consider Russia as a potential aggressor until February 24 shows that there were probably very serious problems with the assessment of the situation. ”

“Orbán cannot easily get out of the current situation. The Russian threads are too strong, and the Russian secret service presence in Hungary is too strong. ”
