Hungary is the only EU member state where academic freedom is structurally violated, said the culture and education committee of the European Parliament, when Peter Maassen, professor at the University of Oslo, presented the study prepared by his research group on the 27 EU member states.

As we reported, according to the evaluation, there are signs of attacks on academic freedom everywhere, but the situation is the most serious in Hungary. Peter Maassen asked the EP to keep the topic on the agenda and to create a European platform where violations or even threats to academic freedom can be reported.

Here is the latest study, Hungary is the only EU member state where academic freedom is structurally violated
The situation of academic freedom is significantly worse…

At the meeting, the representative of the European Commission confirmed that the board has started collecting data on how the conditions defining academic freedom apply throughout the EU, and that next year it will already have the information that will enable a comparative analysis of the member states. The EU representative body is preparing for a similar step, this year it wants to prepare its own academic freedom index for the EU member state.
